Planting Your Roots – The Key to Creating Your Forever Home

Home Construction by Harth Builders

It’s no new news that the housing market has been completely insane over the last couple years. For that reason, home renovation spending has skyrocketed.  That’s right, rather than people searching for their dream home, many have decided to transform their existing house to create their dream home. While this might not be what you had hoped for or envisioned, we are here to tell you there is nothing wrong with planting your roots where you are, with the key to creating your forever home!

What does all of the above have to do with us?  What is the connection to window treatments?  What is the key to creating your forever home? In our experience, window treatments are often the finishing touch of designing a new home. Similarly, they’re often the last thing that crosses your mind when renovating or updating your space. However, believe it or not, they are one of the more crucial considerations to make!  How? The answer is longevity and comfort!

Longevity

When purchasing custom window treatments from us, you are making a committed investment. Hunter Douglas shades are not cheap; no, they are a quality product that will last you years on end. In fact, we are still getting shades from the early 2000s for our repair services. That’s a 20 year old shade!  The point being, you want to choose a shade that not only meets your needs for your home, but one that you love, because unless you plan on swapping them out every few years, you’ll have them for quite some time!

Comfort

As I mentioned, your treatment selection shouldn’t be taken lightly. Window treatments can greatly enhance the comfort of your home by addressing concerns of privacy, light control, energy efficiency, and convenience.  Let’s look at each of these briefly

Privacy

Privacy is the obvious reason for window treatments. However different shades offer different levels of privacy. Some have wider ranges of opacity levels, some have vanes that open and close, and some can open down from the top!  The biggest  way to feel uncomfortable in your home is if you feel exposed to your neighbors and passer-bys.

Light control

Whether it’s an annoying glare that disrupts your favorite show, or the beam of light that’s directed right at your pillow at the crack of dawn, being able to control the amount of light that comes into your home is important to your level of comfort. Many shades, such as the Silhouette®, Luminette® Privacy Sheers, Pirouette®, and Nantucket™ window shadings are known to transform this harsh, unwanted light into a natural, ambient light that illuminates your space without causing other concerns.

  • Other shades, such as the Duette® Honeycomb, are known for their blackout options for those who are super light sleepers and prefer the cave feel!

Energy Efficiency

What’s with this Pennsylvania weather lately? Summers have been scorchers reaching highs of mid 90s!  If you’re not for the cold, temps of just 30s-40s is enough to make you blast the heat. Regardless Of the season, you most likely are spending more on energy costs then you would need to be if you had energy efficient window treatments. Read more here about some options for you, such as the top-rated Duette® Honeycomb shade, that can help you lower those bills without sacrificing your comfort!

Convenience

Last, but certainly not least, is the importance of convenience. The simplest way to add convenience to your day when it comes to window treatments is through automation. If you look around, nearly everything involves smart technology. Smart phones, smart watches, smart TVs. In fact, the phrase “there’s an app for that” is becoming second nature!   Hunter Douglas offers nearly every window treatment type with PowerView® Automation.  Simply operate your shades at the touch of a button with the “pebble” remote or download the PowerView® App to your smart phone/device to access at any time, anywhere.  You can even set daily schedules for your shades individually or together depending on your specific preferences!  You may think that you don’t need motorized window treatments in your home. Perhaps all your windows are easy to access and you don’t mind going around the house opening and closing them morning and night or with the midday sun. But, don’t lose sight of the focus of this article: you are creating your forever your home. That means, what might not be a hassle today, may very well be I’m the next 10-20 years. An investment now can pay off later in many regards, especially since technology advances will never reverse, and neither will your age. (As much as you may wish that).

As you can see, there are many things to consider when updating your space from just a window treatment perspective. You may be feeling overwhelmed as if you’ll make the wrong selections. Don’t worry! That’s what our consultants are for! We recommend sharing with us the following three considerations…

  1. Purpose: Why are you getting shades (privacy, light control, ease of use?)
  2. Style: What is the vibe or taste that you want to evoke in your space?
  3. Budget: What is the ballpark range you would like to stay within?

These three things will help us help you make the best product selections for your home.  (There is a whole blog post about these considerations here)
