Sharing the Spotlight: Award Winning Kitchen Transformation

Philly Kitchen interior design

Gorgeous – Timeless – Fresh – Clean – Functional

These words and more always come to mind when admiring the work of our friend and fellow Design Partner, Glenna Stone.  Glenna Stone, a Philadelphia based Interior Designer, was tasked with a kitchen transformation of a home dating back to 1893 in the historic neighborhood of Mount Airy.  This small space presented a bit of a challenge; however, no challenge is too big for Glenna, and this particular one became featured in the exclusive Kitchen and Bath Business Magazine.  Might I add that our products and services were included in this project too!  Read on and check it all out!

The Challenge

before kitchen transformation

Tight and enclosed, this late 19th century kitchen was no longer suitable for its homeowners.  Feeling cramped and disorganized with limited storage, this couple was seeking a space that is “fresh, clean, & timeless,” offering both convenience and practicality in their home.  Seeing the issue at hand, a local real estate agent referred Glenna Stone Interior Design, knowing their established track record with kitchen redesign.

Immediately upon entering the room, Glenna knew the biggest challenge would be working with such a small footprint.  With a bit of strategy and collaboration, Glenna was able to develop a design that addressed all of her client’s concerns.

Kitchen Transformation: The Plan

blueprint of kitchen transformation

In order to eliminate that “cramped” feeling and create more storage space, GSID’s design team’s first plan of action in opening up the kitchen was by removing the dividing wall.  This also helped to bring light to a previously dark and dreary space.  After this they were able to…

  • Install a peninsula with cabinets for storage
  • Create an entryway with a countertop and cabinets for easy access
  • Rearrange appliances
  • Bring the laundry room upstairs

Last but certainly not least, (in our biased opinion) window treatments were beautifully installed, and this is where we come in 🙂

Coming Together

Having worked with us for 3 years after meeting at a NARI chapter meeting, Glenna was well aware of our expertise with Hunter Douglas products and decided to bring us in.   Wanting to keep the original windows at the clients’ request, while maximizing natural light, Glenna and Laura collaborated together with the homeowners to discuss their project.

“Working with Ambiance Design allows for us to quickly narrow down the options for our clients and move forward with decisions much more straightforwardly. We can be fully con

The Sonnette Solution: Sonnette Cellular Roller Shades

We were absolutely thrilled to offer the perfect solution to Glenna’s clients with Hunter Douglas’s NEWLY introduced Sonnette Cellular Roller Shades.  These shades combine a traditional roller shade with an energy efficient honeycomb shade into a modern, fresh, new treatment!  We recommended SoftTouch motorization, the latest Hunter Douglas operating system, which would provide the convenience and practicality that these homeowners both desire and deserve.  With just a “soft touch” of a finger, they can open and close their window treatments to their preferred position, allowing for the perfect amount of light control and privacy!  The semi-opaque fabric selection also helped lighten up the space, contributing to a more welcoming and homey environment too.

A Grand Slam Win

See for yourself, this finished project is one to brag about.  Not only did this kitchen transformation and win a 2018 IDA award, it also was recently featured in the July/August print edition of the exclusive Kitchen and Bath Business Magazine!  On top of that, this project collaboration allowed for us to sell our first ever Sonnette Cellular Shade (7 to be exact) which we were super excited about.  Most importantly though, the finished result exceeded the clients’ expectations, leaving them with a kitchen that is welcoming, comfortable, practical, and fresh!  And when it is all said and done, that is both Glenna Stone Interior Design and Ambiance Design’s main priority and mission – to solve problems and address concerns by creating comfort in one’s home with our products and services in a professional and personable way, leaving our clients in love with their new space!
