Buyer Beware! Hire Window Treatment Professionals

Spending money is an inevitable part of life.  The way we spend our money varies from person to person.  Some people may invest more in travel and experiences than having the nicest car and finest accessories.  However, when it comes to window treatments in your home, save yourself the headache, and invest in a small, professional business for custom window treatments with certified installers!  Just recently, our staff at Ambiance Design– a Hunter Douglas Centurion Gallery Dealer, was able to solve the frustrations of two separate homeowners who learned this lesson the hard way.  Read on for both stories.

The Incompetent Installer:

We recently got a call from a man who purchased quality shades through a designer who did not have a Hunter Douglas certified installer lined up.  Therefore, he hired his own handyman.  The result?  The motorized shades were not programmed correctly, the shades were not level, and the consumer’s limits were definitely tested.  Luckily, with a quick google search, he found Ambiance Design and contacted us to see if there was anything we could do to help.   Owner and head Master Installer, Dan Hawley, went out to the client’s home to take a look.

-Dan, Chris, and Bryan are all Hunter Douglas certified installers and Dan has additionally earned the highest level as a “Master Installer” through training in Colorado.

Dan reprogrammed all of the limits of the Designer Roller Shades and adjusted the skewed cassettes, leveling them with the window frame.  Now these stunning Hunter Douglas roller shades look great and are functioning as they should!


The Abandoned Client:

JC Penny has it all – clothes, shoes, appliances, and home décor (including window treatments).  Who wouldn’t want to go there for a one stop shopping experience?  That was the thought process of this next story in which a homeowner purchased custom Hunter Douglas top-down/bottom-up Duette Honeycomb shades with motorization through JC Penny.

However, after quite some time, she began experiencing some issues with the motors and gave JC Penny a call to have someone come out and take a look.  The response?  “I am sorry, but we no longer service our treatments,” leaving the consumer abandoned and unsure of what to do next.  Luckily, she found Ambiance Design and gave us a call, to which we scheduled our Hunter Douglas certified installer to go take a look.

Our certified installers have awesome company vans to store products, parts, and repair kits to come out to your home for a service call or repair!

It does not matter to us where you bought your Hunter Douglas treatment; we will gladly make ourselves available to come out on a service call to have your shades, shutters, or blinds repaired for a minimal labor and parts fee

Dan was able to do a hardware/firmware auditing and service the shades to get them working properly once again.

Lessons Learned:

There are two major lessons to be learned from these stories.

  • Purchase from a company whose staff are fully trained, certified, and equipped to get the job done correctly.

All of our staff at Ambiance Design are certified through Hunter Douglas be it as a Consultant or Installer.  We stay up to date on knowledge based and hands-on training to ensure that we can better serve our clients!

  • Avoid Big Box stores when buying custom products, such as custom window treatments.

Face it, big box companies are more interested in making a sale than making a relationship.  However, with small, local businesses (like ourselves) client satisfaction is a top priority.  We do everything in our power to make our clients feel comfortable throughout the entire process of design consultations through product installations, walking alongside every step of the way.  Furthermore, to show our commitment to our product and clients, we also provide LIFE-LONG service FREE of charge and do our best to address and resolve any issue that may come up.
